How Gorenje washing machines and dryers are protecting the environment

Washing machines and dryers used to be one of the biggest consumers of energy in the households. Luckily, modern models are making significant steps in both water and energy efficiency. At Gorenje, care for sustainability and the environment is at the top of our priorities – throughout the entire life cycle of our machines made for laundry. Design, manufacturing, use and removal at the end of every product’s life focus on implementing top notch technology, processes and materials. All with the intention to improve production, to lower energy consumption and to lower the use of natural resources. Here are just some of the steps we are proudly taking.

1. Made in the EU

All Gorenje washing machines and dryers are designed, developed and produced in Europe. This means mainly two things. First, European Union provides regulations regarding how energy-efficient appliances are. To acquire the highest energy classes, machines must comply to strict regulations to prove their energy consumption has a low carbon footprint. When customers purchase energy efficient washing or drying machine with a high rating, they are thus helping limiting global warming (and limiting money spent on bills). All washing machine and dryer models for sale in the EU must display an energy label that displays its energy usage. Our best washing machines are labelled A and tumble dryers are labelled A+++. Secondly, because Gorenje appliances are made in EU, this greatly cuts emissions from transportation and distribution. By producing locally, we (and users of our appliances) are acting globally.

2. Less is more

New generation Gorenje washing machines and dryers use less energy, less water and less detergents. They also emit less noise and are built with environmentally friendly materials and components. In fact, an astonishing 96% of them are recyclable! Recyclability and sustainability is on our mind from start to finish and beyond, after the product has been purchased by the customer. We know that years from the purchasing moment, the appliance will be replaced by its owner and we don’t want it to end up in a landfill, polluting our environment. Our goal is to improve waste management throughout the chain and ensure most parts can be reused. Hopefully, by the time current models will end their cycle, we will already be at 100% recyclability.

3. Eco features

• The Steam function which makes clothes super soft eliminating your need to use softeners, which can pollute the environment.
• NatureDry feature in some dryers not only imitates clothes drying in the fresh air but also protects them. By ensuring they last longer, you can keep them longer and consequently lessen purchasing new ones. Another feature that protects clothes’ durability is AirDry which eliminates moisture and development of mould.
• SuperHygiene of the WNPI84BDS washing machine is another super feature that enables you to add a disinfectant in a special insert. Disinfection is performed at low temperatures and is suitable for energy-saving programmes.
• FastWashing function reduces time of washing and, of course, energy consumption.
• Fast 89’ programme that comes with DNE92/GND heat pump dryer is self-explanatory. The dryer with this function dries clothes in – yep, you guessed it – 89 minutes.
