Fun-oriented Easter – For Kids and Parents

There are more than a dozen Easter traditions out there. We looked into a few fun ones that you can start with your family. Although you may hate cleaning, it also has an up-side: a clean household is a healthy household. Since there is less motivation if you clean by yourself, we looked into ways how to trick kids to help you clean up.

Family time is important, even more so when just about every family member has their own device and is glued for hours to its screen. The Easter holiday should be all about digital detox. About people, families, bonding. To help you achieve all that we have gathered up some Easter traditions you can start with your family.

It is time to brighten up the Easter holidays for children with simple games such as Easter bingo, a memory game, egg hunt, egg run, etc. It is a good idea to involve the kids in the preparation of some games and treats.

In case your Easter thoughts are early, you could prepare an Easter countdown. You can use numbered paper or plastic eggs to create an adorable display and count down timer.

Spice it up – with colors

Surely, Easter is not all about eggs, though they are the belle of the ball. We won’t go into details on how to prepare traditional Easter eggs, nor how to paint them, but we can suggest you spice them up a bit this year. Not with spices, per se, but with color. Covering eggs in glow-in-the-dark colors will without a doubt add a new twist to Easter. These can make the family egg hunt even more special.

Rainbow pancakes

Oh, yes. Even pancakes could use some more color. Making rainbow pancakes will surely excite the kids and they will be eager to help you out, while there won’t be anything to clean up later as they will surely eat everything.

And since there is a lot of excessive feeding going on on Easter, it is a good idea to burn some calories with fun games. We suggest you try some of these.

Easter tree

Not just Christmas, Easter gets its tree too. And just as with end-of-year celebrations, the Easter tree is added the lineup of festive home decorations. In Northern Europe, especially Germany and Sweden, egg-decorated trees (and other plants) have been used for centuries symbolizing spring’s arrival. This tradition is gaining traction all over the world, and is a good motivator for the kids – let them add ideas while the whole family gets crafting. If your household is a tiny one and you don’t have the space for such a centerpiece, skip the tree idea altogether or just shrink it – and make a floral Easter tree. Some paper ornaments and coordinating ribbon are an easy enough DIY-project

Easter bingo

Bingo games will never go out of style. Especially themed ones. An Easter bingo game doesn’t require a lot of effort from the parents these days as there are free printable templates that you can find on the web. If you want to go the extra mile, you can create such a bingo game from scratch. Print out or draw some Easter-themed board and cards, spicing everything up with Easter candy or marshmallows to use as markers for the game.

The egg hunt and run

Easter egg hunts are all the rage for small children. Simple in origin, yet addictive. Eggs are hidden all over for children (eg. players) to find. You, being creative and adding a couple new ingredients, can come up with endless variations. Using different rules for little and big kids also helps, with higher stakes amounting to better or prettier awards for winners.

If there are several children at the house, you can get them active by running with the eggs. It’s a game of skill: the children are placed on the starting line, and each one is given an egg and a spoon. They then run along a predetermined route, taking care not to drop their eggs on the ground, otherwise, they fall out. The winner is the one who reaches the finish line with an egg in a spoon first.

Should bad weather rob you of outdoor activities, you can still adapt for an indoor challenge. Organize an Easter polygon for children where they have to overcome various obstacles with an egg in a spoon, such as crawling under a chair, crossing a rope between walls, spinning around its axis, and the like.

Egg toss

Tossing eggs around is not advisable, but when you turn water-filled balloons into eggs it can be a lot of fun. Split family members and/or friends into pair and have them toss water balloon eggs back and forth. Should an egg pop it’s game over for that team. There can only be one winning pair.

Egg bowling

Provided you can find a smooth and flat surface egg bowling should be on top of the entertainment list. Eggs are not balls so their movement is way less predictable which makes egg bowling so much fun. What can you try and knock down, you ask? How about empty water bottles or cups?

To demanding? Turn egg bowling into a game of precision. Challenge the players to get closest to a marker. Laughter and fun are guaranteed.
