How to stay on top of your laundry

Tips that will help you keep that laundry basket in check

Doing the laundry is a never-ending story. Sorting. Washing. Drying. Ironing. Puting it away. And then next day doing it all again. No wonder it’s so hard to keep up! Here are some tips on how to get your laundry under control and keep the laundry basket from turning into the laundry monster!

1. Plan to be home when the washing cycle is finished.

If at all possible, it’s best you transfer the laundry directly to the dryer as soon as the washing cycle is finished. Otherwise you run the risk of smelly laundry or you might even forget to do it altogether, then find an unpleasant surprise next time you go load the washer. If you won’t be home at that time, think about setting up a reminder on your mobile, so that the laundry doesn’t sit in the washer for too long.

2. Delegate.

Team work makes the dream work and that goes for laundry as well. Involving the whole family might require a bit of a learning curve at first, but in the end it will absolutely be worth it. Give every member of the family their (age-appropriate) task and watch that mountain of laundry disappear come laundry day.

3. Take advantage of modern technology.

Take a peek at your washer’s user manual and you might be surprised by what it can achieve in less than one hour. Most modern appliances have some type of a fast programme, that can save you when you’re short on time. Gorenje’s WaveActive washers, for example, feature the quick and intensive PowerWash 59‘ programme, that makes sure your favorite items are ready to wear again in the time it takes you to prepare a proper meal.

4. Make folding fun (well, kind of).

Folding the a week’s worth of laundry can feel like a daunting task – one you might want to procrastinate on. So, instead do it in chunks. It’s best if you fold it as soon as you’ve taken it from the dryer, but if that wasn’t possible for whatever reason, we suggest a triage system: do the easy folding first (like towels and bedsheets), then proceed to grown-up clothes and finally tackle the small kids clothes and socks. Doing it this way will keep your motivation up since you will quickly see the results of your work. Listening to your favourite podcast, music or audiobook will keep your brain occupied at the same time and you will be done before you know it.

5. Don’t iron more than you need to.

A lot of the time ironing is the bottle-neck in the laundry process as it can be pretty time-consuming and well, not exactly what most people would call fun. But do you really need to iron every piece of laundry? We assure you that you don’t! Using a tumble dryer with steam function for example can significantly reduce wrinkles and practicaly eliminate the need for ironing. And if you want to find our more, here are a few additional tips on how to avoid ironing.

6. Invest in large capacity appliances.

Washers and dryers with larger capacities allow you to take care of more laundry at once, saving you a significant amount of time and effort.

7. Don’t sweat it, when you fall behind.

Sometimes life takes priority, while the laundry just keeps piling up in the corner and that’s ok, too. Just remember: no amount of dirty laundry is worth stressing about.
