A no-hassle guide to a clean fridge

When was the last time you cleaned your fridge? Research shows that we don’t do it nearly as often as we should, especially considering the fact that we use it to store food. A neglected fridge is not only unpleasant to look at, but can also be a breading ground for germs and bacteria, which can cause serious illnesses.

1. Make room. Take all the food out of the fridge and remove the shelves and drawers. It will make cleaning much easier and you won’t contaminate your food with detergent.
2. Give it a wash. Clean all the surfaces, including all the nooks and crannies with a soft cloth using a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Don’t clean plastic materials with detergents that contain alcohol.
3. Go with the flow. Clean the gutter and the discharge opening for the water from the thawed frost deposits. You can use a drinking straw.
4. Thaw it. Defrost the freezer compartment everytime the frost build-up is more than 3-5 mm thick. Or, at the very least, before your drawers are frozen shut. If you hate defrosting, think about investing in a NoFrost appliance, which allows you to live a frost-free life.
5. Prevention is key. To make sure your fridge stays as clean as possible, wipe all spills as soon as possible and always throw away outdated food.

But don’t worry, it’s not as daunting as it seems, just follow these 5 steps.
